* As a new university year approaches, students are preparing for fresh courses, new friends and city life – with rent a key factor in deciding where to study.
* Average rents paid by students were analysed across UK cities, and unsurprisingly, London came out highest – with students paying an average share of £1,359.
* Reading followed, with average rent of £965, then Brighton (£941) and Bristol (£846). The world-renowned university cities of Oxford and Cambridge also featured in the top 10.
* Across the UK, the average rent paid per student is now £933 per month. This marks a 29% rise over the past five years, when the average was £724.
